The Transition Region between Brightest Cluster Galaxies and Intracluster Light in Galaxy Groups and Clusters

چکیده

We take advantage of a state-of-art semi analytic model galaxy formation, and the presented in \citet{contini21a}, to investigate mass distribution Brightest Cluster Galaxies (BCGs) Intra-Cluster Light (ICL) by addressing two points: (1) region transition between BCG dominated an ICL one, and; (2) relation total BCG+ICL one alone. find radius be independent both halo masses, with average 60$\pm$40 kpc, good agreement previous observational measurements, but given large scatter, it can considered as sort physical separation components only on cluster scale. From analysis $M_{ICL}-M_{BCG+ICL}$ relation, we build method able extract directly from knowledge one. Given scatter low systems, such under/overpredicts true value significant way, up factor three worst cases. On other hand, for $\log M_{BCG+ICL}>12$ or M_{Halo}>14$, difference extracted ranges $\pm$30\%. therefore suggest this reliable test works aiming isolate BCG, systems hosted haloes

Intracluster Light in Nearby Galaxy Clusters: Relationship to the Halos of Brightest Cluster Galaxies

We present a detailed analysis of the surface brightness distribution of the brightest cluster galaxy (BCG) in each of 24 galaxy clusters at 0.03 < z < 0.13. We use two-dimensional profile fitting to model the surface brightness out to r = 300 kpc for each BCG, comparing r1/4, r1/n, and double r1/4 models. We obtain statistically superior fits using a two component model consisting of a pair of...

Intracluster Light in Nearby Galaxy Clusters: I. Relationship to the Halos of Brightest Cluster Galaxies

We present a detailed analysis of the surface brightness distribution of the brightest cluster galaxy (BCG) in a sample of 24 galaxy clusters at 0.03 < z < 0.13. We use two-dimensional profile fitting to model the surface brightness out to r = 300 h−1 70 kpc for each BCG, comparing r 1/4, r1/n, and double r1/4 models. The observed position angle and ellipticity gradients are inconsistent with a...

An imaging survey of a uniform sample of Brightest Cluster Galaxies and Intracluster Light

We present deep, large area B and r imaging for a sample of 49 brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs). The clusters were selected by their x-ray luminosity and redshift to form two volume limited samples, one with 〈z〉 ∼ 0.07 and one at 〈z〉 ∼ 0.17. For each cluster the data cover 41 × 41. We discuss our data reduction techniques in detail, and show that we can reliably measure the surface brightness ...

Brightest Cluster Galaxy Formation in Low - Redshift Galaxy Clusters

We present the composite luminosity function of a sample of 17 low-redshift galaxy clusters. Our luminosity functions have been measured for an inner region (r ≤ r 200) and an outer region (r 200 ≤ r ≤ 2r 200) centred on each Brightest Cluster Galaxy. The inner region luminosity function has a significantly flatter faint-end slope (α inner = −1.81 ± 0.02) than the outer region (α outer = −2.07 ...

The XMM Cluster Survey: the interplay between the brightest cluster galaxy and the intracluster medium via AGN feedback

Using a sample of 123 X-ray clusters and groups drawn from the XMM Cluster Survey first data release, we investigate the interplay between the brightest cluster galaxy (BCG), its black hole and the intracluster/group medium (ICM). It appears that for groups and clusters with a BCG likely to host significant active galactic nuclei (AGN) feedback, gas cooling dominates in those with TX > 2 keV wh...
